PROOF OF EVIDENCE OF DJEMAL DINC
- I am now 28. I have been a heroin addict for about 6 years now. I have been diagnosed with HIV but my father doesn't know about this. Please do NOT mention the name of this illness in court as my father is completely paranoid about it. I am well, although have a very difficult medication regime which I have to follow.
- I had only recently been diagnosed at the time of this offence. I was in a state of depression although I was feeling well. I was only diagnosed by chance when I went to give blood. I did not disclose my Heroin addiction and so, I suppose, it is fortunate that they caught me when they did or else I would have infected someone else.
- On the day of the offence I was feeling particularly low. I was in need of Heroin which I can usually afford from the wages which my dad gives me. On 19th October he was upset about my mum's death and had forgotten to leave my wages. I was angry with him because he assumed that I wouldn't be upset and could, therefore, take some deliveries into the shop.
- I decided that I wanted the heroin and the temptation of the money was too great. I took it on impulse; stupidly, I needed only to take £100 which I could have done without anyone really noticing - I could have just reduced the alcohol order a little. I was pleased when the policeman caught up with me. I made full admissions and I indicated a guilty plea at the Crown Court although they refused jurisdiction.
- Up to then I'd been doing quite well. Obviously I was still taking heroin but my life was in control. I am surprised that I haven't been recalled but I suppose I'll be going back inside.
